INTRODUCTION
The city of various Khmer ruins and the famous statute of Khun Ying Mo named Nakhon Ratchasima or commonly known as "Khorat" is situated on Khorat plateu, the lower part of Northeastern plateau of Thailand. The city itself serves as the Gateway to the Northeastern Region. From Bangkok, 256 kms. by car, 246 by train, it has and area 20,493 sq.km. or about 12,842,600 rai and it has neighboring provinces as follow:
North Connect with Chaiyaphum,
Khon Kean
South Connect with Prachin Buri,
Nakhon Nayok
East Connect with Buri Ram
West Connect with Chaiyaphum, Saraburi and Nakhon Nayok
General areas are mainly within the high level plain, averagely in a range of evevations of 150-300 meters, there are mountain ranges, namely Khao Yai in the South, and Phanom Dong Rak in the West. Other areas in the central part and partly upward and also in the eastern part are on a low land plain that has 3 important rivers passing through.

ป่าส่วนใหญ่เป็นป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าเบญจะพรรณ ป่าดิบเขาทุ่งหญ้า และป่าเต็งรัง มีนกชุกชุม กว่า 350 ชนิด ที่น่าสนใจและพบบ่อย เช่น นกขุนแผนหัวแดง (Red-headed Trogon) นกแต้วแล้วสีน้ำเงิน (Blue Pitta) นกกะ เต็นลาย (Banded Kingfisher) นกโพระดกคอสีฟ้าเคราดำ (Moustached Barbet) นกกก (Great Hornbill) นกพญาไฟใหญ่ (Scarlet Minivet) ส่วนนกที่ค่อนข้างหายากแต่หาดูได้ที่เขาใหญ่ เช่น ไก่ฟ้า พญาลอ (Siamese Fireback) นกโกโรโกโส (Coral-billed Ground-Cuckoo) นกยางลายเสือ (Malayan Night-Heron) และนกอ้ายงั่ว (Oriental Darter) เป็นต้น จุดดูนกที่ดี ในเขาใหญ่มีดังนี้ บริเวณรอบ ๆ ที่ทำการอุทยานฯ เส้นทางเดินเท้าหมายเลข 6 (ทางมอสิงโต) บริเวณกิโลเมตรที่ 45 ผากล้วยไม้ บริเวณน้ำตกเหวสุวัต ทางเดินเท้า-วังจำปี-หนองผักชี ด่านช้าง และในบริเวณจุดชมวิวทางลงไป ปากช่อง ซึ่งจะพบนกได้ค่อนข้างมากกว่าจุดอื่น ๆ
การเดินทาง
ใช้ทางหลวงหมายเลข 2 สู่อำเภอปากช่อง จังหวัดนครรราชสีมา แล้วเลี้ยวขวาระหว่างกิโลเมตรที่ 165 -166 ขึ้นเขาไปอีก 40 กิโลเมตร หรือใช้ทางหลวงหมายเลข 33 (นครนายก-อรัญประเทศ) ไปประมาณ 21 กิโลเมตร ถึง สี่แยกเนินหอม จังหวัดปราจีนบุรี เลี้ยวซ้ายเข้าทางหลวงหมายเลข 3077 ไปอีก 45 กิโลเมตร มีจุดกางเต็นท์บริเวณ ผากล้วยไม้ หรือหากไปเป็นกลุ่มคณะ อาจทำหนังสือติดต่อไปที่ส่วนอุทยานแห่งชาติ กรมป่าไม้ โทร.
